This week, President Obama took his daughters for a swim. That’s right, he’s a good dad, and he wanted to spend time with his daughters. I don’t really have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with is WHERE he took them for a swim…or rather, where he SAID he took them for a swim…the Gulf of Mexico. Why did he swim in the Gulf, and why does it matter? Well, by way of analogy, think back about ten years, when we had a different president, you know, what’s ‘is name, the fellow who couldn’t say “nuclear” correctly? We had a little problem with mercury in our water, and the EPA was attempting to rewrite the mercury standards to reduce the amount of mercury that people were consuming. Ol’ what’s ‘is name decided to block the rule change, because big bidness didn’t like it…then, just to show that there wasn’t anything wrong with the current standard, he drank a glass of water with mercury in it…to show he wasn’t scared. If he’d drink the stuff, it must be all right. Right? Right. |

Last week, a jury handed down a decision on a lawsuit against Girls Gone Wild which has been reverberating through the blogosphere. Countless bytes have been expended on discussing this case, and tempers have flared. This article is not about that case. At this point, the information I have is insufficient to evaluate the situation fully about the legal aspects, and I have no way of knowing (unlike many of the bloggers) exactly what Jane Doe was feeling when she was dancing in the bar where she was filmed, or what she was feeling when someone yanked down her top after she refused to remove it, nor what she was feeling when the film turned up later in an embarrassing venue. So, for those of you who are viciously tearing apart anyone who dares to write a column condemning the decision, you can turn your attention elsewhere, because that is... more

This message is for my liberal Christian friends: I want you to cease and desist mocking, deriding, or otherwise ridiculing the Reverend Pat Robertson. It’s time for you to show him proper respect, and let him do his thing in peace, undisturbed by your hatred and anger. I realize it’s tough, because he does so leave himself open to ridicule, but, well, that’s what we have to do. We have to respect religion, and never, ever, ever make fun of it, because people believe it deeply. At least, that’s what everyone has been telling the “New” Atheists, every time they make a frontal assault on some deeply beloved Christian belief. |
