- Some Questions for President Obama
   by Robin Buckallew

Recently President Obama has come out in favor of increasing the amount of power we generate from nuclear sources. This is his approach to reducing emissions, in face of the growing threat from global warming and the total inability of our country to come to grips with the need to reduce reliance on CO2-generating coal, oil, and natural gas. Obama isn’t the first on the left to endorse nuclear as an option; however, he is in a better position than all those who came before him to actually carry it to fruition. So, before we embark upon a big, and difficult to reverse, step in this direction, I would like to ask him a few questions. It’s possible he’s thought these things through; if so, I think we, the citizens of the world, deserve to know what he’s thinking. After all, this is our world, too, and we have to live here.

First of all, I’m somewhat concerned about this decision on the heels of an earlier decision to take Yucca Mountain totally out of consideration as a nuclear waste storage site. Right now, all the nuclear waste that has been generated is just stored on site at the plant where it has been generated. Most scientists recommend underground storage, because of the unique danger posed by such wastes. Personally, I’m a bit ambivalent about the Yucca Mountain site. I’ve seen the studies on it, and it appears to be solid scientifically, and possibly is the best site in the country to store it; however, it does seem a bit…shall we say, unfair…to store all the nuclear waste the country is generating in a state that doesn’t want it, and that has no nuclear power plants of its own. That being said, that’s a strictly political argument, and Obama has promised to utilize proper science in making scientific decisions. Is his decision based on science? If so, what are the scientific arguments supporting his decision? It appears to me that the decision is strictly political, and as such, while it might be the right decision, it generates some disturbing questions. Such as…where are we going to put the waste? At this point, there is no alternative site identified that can meet the criteria for keeping us safe from radiation. In fact, Yucca Mountain really can’t meet the EPA criteria, but then, we will never find a site that... more

- A Blueprint for Corruption
   by Mark Faulk

(Editor's note: This is the first of a series of excerpts from The Naked Truth: Investing in the Stock Play of a Lifetime, by Mark Faulk. Released in 2008, it is a cautionary true story about a financial system rife with corruption, and predicted last year’s market meltdown. The subject of the book, CMKM Diamonds, Inc. (CMKX), eventually triggered a massive investigation involving the FBI, DOJ, IRS, and SEC, and led to numerous major lawsuits and multiple federal criminal indictments. The Naked Truth: Investing in the Stock Play of a Lifetime is available at www.thenakedtruthbook.com/)

- Glenn Beck is a Sorry Escuse for a Mormon
   by Ken Shade

(Editor's note: I lifted this from Ken’s Quote of the Day, because it's brilliant, and because I believe Glenn Beck is a self-righteous hypocrite leading the Right down the path to ruin. Enough said.)

Some-Excuse-For-A-Mormon Quote of the Day

"I beg you, look for the words 'social justice' or 'economic justice' on your church Web site. If you find it, run as fast as you can. Social justice and economic justice, they are code words [for socialism and fascism]....Am I advising people to leave their church? Yes! If I am going to Jeremiah Wright's church. If you have a priest that is pushing social justice, go find another parish. Go alert your bishop."

Glenn Beck, member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) 02 March, 2010, as quoted in the church's Deseret News, 12 March, 2010
