- You Are What You Eat....
by Robin Buckallew, Lillian Annabella Constantine lll, Kelsey Faulk, Zola Zook, and Mark Faulk

They're drilling big holes in Alaska
They're killing off all of the seals
And I'm driving around in an SUV
Wondering how all those animals feel
When we take away their brothers and sisters
Or run over them in our car
Their innocent blood doesn't matter...
Because that's just the way that we are

Remember what we used to stand for?
Where has our innocence gone?
We live in a society that could really care less
When something is totally wrong
We used to have a conscience,
But now we just don't dare
Where has the human heart gone?
I can't see it anywhere...

Leave them to rot in a pile on the side of the road
And insist on our gourmet meat
Somehow we all have forgotten
They say that you are what you eat
So does that make the people in Asia dogs?
Does that make us a pig or a cow?
Did we forget the lessons of Darwin
That we all are related somehow?

Let's boycott eating our animal friends
Let's all go out and hug a tree!
Just like American citizens,
Animals deserve to be free
And when we look in the eyes of a cow,
The message is perfectly clear...
If we don't change our habits soon,
We all could just disappear.

Editor's note....This was a "stream-of-consciousness" poem written today in the Faulking Truth Guestbook by several of our "regulars", with everyone randomly adding lines. At least three of us (moi included) were supposed to be working, so if the Gross National Product is down a bit this week, that would explain it. Hey, we have our priorities straight. Go back a few pages in the Guestbook, and you can watch the birth of this poem (and another uncut and uncensored one, which is posted in Blogfest 2005) in action. See what you're missing by working instead of playing with us in the Guestbook? Your loss.

This line just wouldn't fit, but it was too good not to share with our readers (apologies to Lily):

We're really just a roughnecked teenage jerk with a bottle of pills, bottle of booze,
full round of ammunition...and nothing to lose
