- Our Elected Officials isn't Learning
   by Mark Faulk

I give up. Seriously, I want to believe that there is some good still remaining in Washington, perhaps hidden away in the trunk of one of those hydrogen-powered cars that Congressmen paraded out in front of reporters for a photo op today, just before they drove them around the corner, climbed out, and settled their taxpayers’ money fattened asses back into their gas-guzzling SUVs to drive the last few blocks back to Capitol Hill.

Here’s House Speaker Dennis Hastert of Ill., getting out of a Hydrogen Alternative Fueled automobile and climbing into his gas-guzzling SUV, after holding a news conference at a local gas station in Washington on Thursday to discuss the recent rise in gas prices. Hastert and other members of Congress drove off in the Hydrogen-Fueled cars only to switch to their official cars to drive the few blocks back to the U.S. Capitol.

Not enough insanity for you? How about this one: President Bush said Friday that taxing enormous oil industry profits is not the way to calm Americans' anxieties about pain at the gas pump, and that his "inclination and instincts" are that major oil companies are not intentionally overcharging drivers. Instead, he wants to ease regulations so that oil companies can plow their record profits into....earning yet more record profits.

"I have no evidence that there's any rip-off taking place," Bush said. "It's the role of the Federal Trade Commission to assure me that my inclination and instincts is right."

Okay folks, I don’t know about you, but my inclination and instincts is telling me that our President are a complete and total moron. Am I surprised by any of this? Not in the least….after all, this is the self-proclaimed “decider”….excuse me, should that have that have been “this ARE the self-proclaimed decider”? This New English are sometimes difficult for me to understand.

And finally, how does The Great Decider want us to conserve while gas prices are driving us all to the poorhouse? He wants us to keep the pedal to the metal. "With gas prices on the minds of Americans, we need to keep our foot on the pedal of this strong economy," the president said.

And that, once again, are the Faulking Truth.
