Faulking Around - Aug 24, 2005 - Printable Version - Robertson and Chavez Reportedly Seen at Trendy Nightclub by Mark Faulk Pat Robertson backed off of statements that he made earlier this week on the 700 Club, calling for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, when he said that "You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop." Earlier today, he said that he was "taken out of context by the media," even though his quotes were taken directly from his own TV show. "I didn't say 'assassination.' I said our special forces should 'take him out.' And 'take him out' can be a number of things, including kidnapping; there are a number of ways to take out a dictator from power besides killing him. I was misinterpreted by the AP (Associated Press), but that happens all the time." A little later, Robertson apologized for the same statements that he denied making just hours earlier. "Is it right to call for assassination? No, and I apologize for that statement," Robertson said. However, he didn't apologize for lying about making the statement in the first place. Among the response from Faulking Truth readers who were trying to give Robertson the benefit of the doubt in the Chavez debacle: "He meant, 'A special Op...portunity' to 'Take him out to dinner.'" "Maybe it was 'Take him out to the ball game'. You know how Castro loves his Baseball, it only makes sense that Chavez would too." "Maybe he meant take him out....to the wood shed for a good whuppin'." In a seemingly unrelated report, we have been unable to confirm rumors that Robertson and Chavez were seen holding hands, sharing a pina coloda, and smoking Cuban cigars in a dark corner at Heaven, a trendy New York City nightclub described as "an uber gay dance club in the gay mecca of Chelsea." However, those rumors are most likely not true, since it's highly unlikely that Robertson would be allowed to enter Heaven under any circumstances. And that's the Faulking Truth....
