Down The Middle  -  April 17, 2007   -  Printable Version
- Bring On The Lucie
   by Down The Middle

If I had to sum it up in three words, I suppose greed and power would have to be the first two. Throughout history, men have coveted great wealth, not only for the luxury of living well but also for the power it holds over other men. I am forever in a shadowy awe of "little" men, who willfully continue to enable "big" men to rule over the entirety of their lives, and all in return for that simple crust of "daily bread". I suppose for most, the security of a warm fire and a full belly has always been the price of servitude and allegiance.

Although a few Americans have finally awakened to the reality, most continue to go about their day with a false sense of security, rooted in the Americana of Ward and June Cleaver. They seem to believe that no matter what mischief President Eddie Haskell, Senator Lumpy Rutherford and Congressman Larry Mondello get us into, at the end of the day citizen Beaver will once again look up from his warm bed into the reassuring smiles of Ward and June, before drifting off to sleep with the comfort of big brother Wally watching over him.

But those who sleep in the comfort of their ignorance are soon to have a rude awakening. While our country is being dismantled and sold off, faster than you can say, "What happened to the Bill of Rights", our armed forces are preparing to attack Iran with a devastating air assault that will most likely include nuclear bunker busters. It's said that God loves drunks, madmen and the American Army... and I suppose we'll soon find out, as this attack will propagate a more united Islamic front, while enraging the Russians and the Chinese.

I do, however, understand my countrymen's apathy towards the war. After all, anyone who was born to this country after World War II has long become accustomed to these small periodic, "overseas" wars of the last fifty years. After Korea and Viet Nam, the general public simply learned to "turn away" and accept the unacceptable, choosing rather to concentrate on more selfish endeavors, such as large bank accounts, bright shiny cars and siliconized cleavage. Unfortunately, they don't seem to understand the true scope of this campaign nor the domestic agenda of their puppet masters.

While this war contains many of the earmarks of our former wars (such as the profiteering and population thinning), most people simply do not realize that this is not just another Viet Nam. In fact, this war is eventually going to spread throughout the entire region and beyond.

For decades, Saddam had remained the bulwarks of the Sunni kingdoms, holding Shia Iran at arms length -- but by deposing Saddam and putting the Shia in charge of the country, the U.S. not only created a civil war in Iraq, but throughout the whole of the Middle East. Now the kingdoms (notably Saudi Arabia and Jordan), along with Egypt are quietly supporting Sunni insurgents, who reportedly have strong ties to Al Qaeda.

A recent story in the Israeli daily, Yediot Aharonat, reported the construction of a complex of factories and residential areas in the Al Sulial desert, some 500 kilometers south of the Saudi Arabian capitol of Riyad, built around two Saudi missile bases with huge silos. Of the thirty-three buildings identified in satellite photographs, eight were said to be large enough to house the Chinese made CSS-2, which is believed to have a range between 2,500 and 3,500 kilometers and is capable of carrying "unconventional warheads".

Of course, we know Israel has maintained a strong nuclear capability for several decades, but in 2002, Geostrategy Intelligence Service reported that sources in U.S. intelligence were convinced Pakistan was selling nuclear secrets to Saudi Arabia. Also in 2002, Stratfor Intelligence quoted Russian Deputy Chief of Staff Gen. Yuri Baluyevsky as saying, "Now, as to whether or not Iran has tested something like that, Iran does have nuclear weapons. Of course, these are non-strategic nuclear weapons. I mean these are not ICBMs with a range of more than 5,500 kilometers and more."

It appears the stakes are high and if the U.S. and/or Israel go forth with this attack (and I do believe it will happen before Bush leaves office and probably much, much sooner), the entire Middle East could explodeliterally. A Russian entrance into the fray would officially mark the beginning of World War III -- and then, we can all launch missiles!

Kirk Vonnegut wrote, "The firebombing of Dresden was a work of art, a tower of smoke and flame to commemorate the rage and heartbreak of so many who had had their lives warped or ruined by the indescribable greed and vanity and cruelty of Germany".

Now, I wonder just how far we are away from our Dresdens, and what price shall the puppet masters have us pay?

And oh yeah, that third word? I suppose it would have to be evil. To me, "evil" is the only word that can truly encompass the vast measure of man's despicable thoughts and deeds.

by John Lennon

We don't care what flag you're waving
We don't even want to know your name
We don't care where you're from or where you're going
All we know is that you came
You're making all our decisions
We have just one request of you
That while you're thinking things over
Here's something you just better do

Free the people now (Do it do it do it do it)
Do it do it do it do it do it now (Do it do it do it do it)
Free the people now (Do it do it do it do it)
Do it do it do it do it do it now

Well we were caught with our hands in the air
Don't despair paranoia is everywhere
We can shake it with love when we're scared
So let's shout it aloud like a prayer

Free the people now (Do it do it do it do it)
Do it do it do it do it do it now (Do it do it do it do it)
Free the people now (Do it do it do it do it)
Do it do it do it do it do it now

We understand your paranoia
But we don't want to play your game
You think you're cool and know what you are doing
666 is your name
So while you're jerking off each other
You better bear this thought in mind
Your time is up you better know it
But maybe you don't read the signs

Free the people now (Do it do it do it do it)
Do it do it do it do it do it now (Do it do it do it do it)
Free the people now (Do it do it do it do it)
Do it do it do it do it do it now

Well you were caught with your hands in the kill
And you still got to swallow your pill
As you slip and you slide down the hill
On the blood of the people you killed

Stop the killing now (Free the people now, do it do it do it do it)
Do it do it do it do it do it now (Do it do it do it do it)
Stop the killing (Free the people now, do it do it do it do it)
Do it do it do it do it do it now (Do it do it do it do it)
Stop the killing (Free the people now, do it do it do it do it)
Do it do it (Do it do it do it do it)
Stop the killing (Free the people now, do it do it do it do it)
(Do it do it do it do it) Bring on the lucie
Stop the killing (Free the people now)
