- The Worm Has Turned
   by Down The Middle

Don't look so down, children. I know it seems really bad right now...but cheer up. You've already won.......you just don't know it yet. Bush has lost the momentum and folks...even Republican folks...are starting to question just what the hell is going on.

Oh sure, there are those idiots who are going to follow him to their grave...or at least until the bottom falls out of their wallet...and there are those that have "seen the light", and don't recognize it for the flames of Hell that it is. But make no mistake about it (I love saying that, when I'm talking about one of our mealy-mouthed Presidents), Bush has peaked and is beginning his dissent.....and believe me, a long slippery slope it is.

Shortly after Bush secured his second term, I knew this Administration was doomed to failure. Once he had the election sewed up (which was probably before anyone actually voted), he turned around and began screwing some of the very people that helped put him in office, like the farmers who lost 10% of their crop subsidies. Then (long enough after the 9/11 market crash for the greedy to forget), he began screwing around with society's sacred cow, Social Security, pushing us to toss our retirement out on the table, like a pair of dice. If that wasn't enough, he rammed a bunch of fanatics into high office, like Janice Rogers Brown, who he recently appointed to the D.C. Court of Appeals. I've heard her Honor's political philosophy directly associates liberalism with slavery (and all the time, I thought it was those damn "liberal" Yankees that came down here and freed the slaves...and come to think of it, a hundred years after the Civil War, it was those "liberals" like Bobby Kennedy who began exerting political pressure on states like her childhood home of Alabama, forcing them to protect the civil rights of African Americans in the South).

Yes, it looks bad, right now...but how are Americans going to feel about their President when it's their family home that's lost in bankruptcy court? When you kick someone's kids out into the street, confiscating everything they own, someone's going to get mad. (This is the guy the President better look out for. Has Mr. Bush forgotten that thing about Presidents elected in a "zero" year?)

Just this week, his Supreme Court has extended eminent domain to allow cities to bulldoze your home and sell your private property to Walmart or any other business, if they deem the action will increase tax revenue. Dissenting Justice Sandra Day O'Connor put it in a nut shell when she wrote, "Nothing is to prevent the state from replacing any Motel 6 with a Ritz-Carlton, any home with a shopping mall or any farm with a factory." She also said, the decision bowed to the rich and powerful at the expense of middle-class Americans. (Well, welcome to "Walmartica". The land of the free corporations and the home of the not so brave politicians.)

Now, don't despair! More help is on the way. Carl Rove just explained that "While conservatives prepared for war, after 9/11, liberals were suggesting indictments, understanding and therapy." I guess, this goes to say that liberals won't fight for their country. Seems strange, coming from an individual who, along with his good friends, Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney and Wolfowitz (the architect of this Middle-Eastern fiasco), seems to have missed all the fun in the Ia Drang Valley in '65. It would have been nice, had they been there to shoulder an M-16......and not here, now, ordering military actions by the light of a White House fireplace, shouldering only a cognac as they point the way to war, for truly brave American kids.

But then, there's nothing that'll break up a patriotic orgy like a good war gone bad. That is the legacy of Viet Nam. No matter, the beginning. If you get "stuck in the muck", like George has in Iraq, sacrificing more young soldiers on an almost daily basis...people will slowly but surely begin to question the legitimacy of attacking and occupying a country that has not attacked ours'. As the body count rises along with the dollar count, not even their "Grand ole Rag", anti-flag burning bill will rally the masses (I must be having a flashback. Are we still in Viet Nam?).

The invasion and occupation of Iraq was a five year war, at best, long before the first shots were ever fired...but the unbridled arrogance of this Administration and their unsound strategy for dominance of the Middle Eastern oil reserves will cause this regime to collapse under the weight of it's own misgivings.

Just the other day, Democrats and Republicans alike called on the President to set a date for withdrawal from Iraq, and yesterday, Senator Ted Kennedy once again called for Rumsfeld's resignation. Hours later, five Marines (three female and two male) were killed with a car bomb. The people have given this Administration over two years to win a war that should have never happened in the first place...and while they are still defending their indefensible reasons for this war and still telling the American people that we are winning this war, Lt. General John Abizaid, commanding general of U.S. Army forces in the Middle-East, disagrees. He acknowledges that more "Jihadists" are continually flowing into Iraq and that the numbers of car bombs, road side bombs and casualties are still on the rise.

Yes, my children. It looks bad, now...but with each passing day, more Americans are waking up to the reality, and the reality is, more war, less security, more debt, less freedom.

The people have seen.....and the worm has turned.
