Every since reading your article two weeks ago, S.K., I have wanted to introduce myself and apoligize for the persecution you endure at the hands of the so-called Christians, in your area. That is not the "spirit" of Jesus but just the pious, judgmental behavior of those who can't seem to find "all" the pages in their Good Book. I myself, being of 60's, long haired origins and being a resident of a "deep red" state, as yours, have endured decades of unsolicited persecution. Although I could avoid the "looks" and "mutterings" by simply cutting my hair, I choose to exercise my freedom of choice, if for no other reason than to preserve that very freedom. That, my friend, is why I am writing you now.
I understand you are an atheist and you should understand, I am a "believer". Being a believer in God, I would hope that you, too would someday find your faith in the Lord...but that is for you to decide, not for me, our government, or our society as a whole. Every man must look within himself for the answers and someday, I think you will find yours.
Growing up Catholic, as I did, in the rural Protestant South was enough to be labeled "different". {I still remember stories of the Catholics stockpiling guns in the church basement and nuns existing for the "pleasures" of the priests.} Fortunately, for us Catholics, our community also had a few {very few} Jews and Blacks. {If they went after them, maybe us Catholics could get a head start, on running away!} My black friends were not delegated to the balcony of the "best" theater, in town, they weren't allowed in, at all. Fortunately, there was another "lesser" theater in town for people of color...and of course, any whites who didn't believe they were above watching a film with "just anyone".
The Plains Indians in my area are another "group" that was always looked down upon. Of all the Native Americans across the country, I believe these tribes integrated less with the white man and his culture than most. With the history of their free nomadic lifestyle, they could never seem to come to grips with the white man's culture. Even today, they are unwelcome in their own land, by many.
My own little brother is another example of one who endured persecution. He was gay. I remember him expressing his fear of groups like the neo-Nazis and listened to him tell stories of "rednecks", twice his size and wanting to kick his ass, just because he had the audasity to walk in the wrong place {the only place}, looking for directions. {I knew just how he felt.} Before his death, I spent many hours with him discussing the afterlife, whether it be the transfer of energy, salvation through a religious process or no after-life, at all...just the "end" of existence. To this day, I don't know what he truly believed, when his time came. {My Catholic Mother damn sure ran off those "chanting bell-ringers".} They are buried at each other's side.
A funny thing about predejutice, though. Money seems to cut through it like butter. Almost anyone...a longhair, a homosexual, an atheist, a person of color {even poor "pinkies"} or an extraterrestrial can and will be accepted, if they have money to spend. {That doesn't mean they don't talk about you after you leave the room, but it does mean they'll kiss your ass while you're writing the check.}
The freedoms that our forefathers fought and died for give us this right of personnal self-determination. Unfortunately, there are those among us that are now trying to usurp our Constitution so that we are forced to follow their "ideals". Although they proclaim great religious values, they are in fact nothing but the next genertion of the same old fascists, using God's name to recruit the ignorant masses. If we agree on nothing else, I think we would agree that these neo-cons are dangerous to ALL lovers of freedom.
I wish I could tell you everything will be better tomorrow...but I can't. I wish I could show all the "Christians" how they are being misled...but I can't. Unfortunately, S.K., I truly believe that within a few years, after a few more "events", the world will see a dramatic reign of persecution, all in the name of God and Peace. One that will make the Holocost of World War Two pale, in significance. I believe anyone who rejects this "New World Order" will be "cut off" from society, eventually imprisoned and yes, even exterminated.
I promise you now, S.K., as a "true" American who believes in your right of self-determination, if you have the courage to stand with me against the tyrants who are propagating this hate, I will not only stand with you but I will take your place, when your name is called to the "final solution". I must admit, I do this for selfish reasons...but if given the chance, I will turn and smile at you as I go willingly to my death. At that moment, you will know the friendship, you will know the brotherhood, and you will know the love that is the only hope of mankind...the love of thy neighbor!

As you probably already know, I've had problems with Homeland Security since it's inception, during the "panic" after 9/11. I've told you of monies being spent on such things as new leather jackets for Washington, D.C. mortorcycle cops and a boat bought by a Sheriff's department for a local lake {just in case the terrorists like to fish as much as the deputies}.
I suppose by now, all Americans should be resigned to the prosess of our tax money being squandered on the most rediculous things, but in the case of Homeland Security, I would have hoped we might at least received some element of protection for the millions being spent.
I made fun of the Terrorist Threat Level "color" Chart {They couldn't even get the color spectrum in the correct order} but soon stopped laughing when I realized that less than five percent of all imported shipping containers are ever screened {ABC shipped radioactive material with a similar "signature" to weapons grade into New York harbor and on into the City}. Then, it was the vunerablity of our nuclear power plants. In staged raid after raid, Special Forces were able to penetrate their security, not once, not twice, but every time...and while Al Gore was being patted down with Grandma and Junior, at the airport, it was learned that no one was checking the packages being shipped in the cargo holds of the same commercial airliners.
As sad as it is, I couldn't help but laugh again six weeks ago when the Transportation Safety Administration lost their bomb! That's right, they lost their own bomb...a fake one, of course, that was placed in luggage by a supervisor, as a test. http://www.freep.com/news/nw/fakebomb16e_20041216.htm
By now, anyone paying any real attention to all of this might tend to believe the events of the last few years have all been one big mistake. As Ben Franklin put it, "If you give up your freedoms for security...you'll have neither".
