- The Truth About You
   by Lauren Zuniga

You are an infinite being
who never quite fit in your body,
A humanoid tying to be human.

You wanted to pick up trash and
beat on drums until your fingers bled.
The world wanted you to learn about numbers instead,
learn how to function normally.
They poked you,
watched your eyes move from side to side,
and counted your breaths.
You appeared to be human,
but we knew better.

They tried to shock some sense into you,
but instead they shocked the knowing out.
From then on all you knew was that this life
didn't work for you, so you got busy
trying to destroy it… bottle by bottle.
It's amazing how long bodies will fight to live.
But I have gratitude
for your DNA and that you decided to give
it one more day, so I could forgive you.
(Even though you never asked)

I hope when you choose another body,
you will choose one that will allow you more room,
more freedom and a heart as strong as your fingers.
I hope you get to drink coconut milk in the rainforest
and swim in oceans as clear green as your eyes once were.
I hope you get to hold your grandbabies next time,
play with their toes and speak to them in silly rhymes

You know, this earth really isn't so bad
but I'll understand
if you have other plans
Matter fact,
GO…

Go on and Expand…
Fill up the Universe
with the beat you craved everyday on this planet.
Expand now
across these plain ol' plains,
into the mountains,
over highways, through cities dates and names,
into the wind that will kiss my cheek.
Sneak into the space
between suffering and love
between noise and silence
between people and pretending
between eternity and this moment
be you now
be that infinite being
that has no more need
for a body.

(Peace and Light in your transition, dad.)
