     Almost from the moment we watched the American tank wrench Saddam’s stature to the ground {and after all the flowers were swept from the square}, the situation in Iraq has steadily gone from bad to worse, recently culminating in the Pentagon’s admission of the failed military campaign to eliminate resistance and stabilize the country for the new, democratic government. Contraire to the President’s never-ceasing, positive accounts of “good progress”, the generals are now revealing to America what the Internet media has been “buzzing” about for more than a year…the ever-increasing and now, out of control civil war.

     Coming on the heels of Israel’s shockingly poor performance in Lebanon and amidst numerous, new reports of Taliban victories in Afghanistan, the Administration must now be longing for the “good ole days”, when all they had to worry about was explaining why Halliburton was charging us $45 for a case of Coke. After three years of “across-the-board” failures, ranging from paid-for but incomplete, no-bid construction projects to the looming collapse of the Iraqi government, it seems the Neo-cons entire Middle Eastern strategy is coming apart at every level and poised to inflict heavy political causalities, in the November elections.

     So, what went wrong with the neo-con intellectuals’ plan of sweeping away the tyrants and terrorists with a minimum of military effort, all to be “paid-as-we-go” by the oil which we “liberate”? And why, while still mired in the muck of three failed military campaigns {Afghanistan, Iraq and Lebanon} would they be preparing to open yet another front, with an attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran?

     Most of pro-war America continues to go about their day, never questioning the rationale of such tactics and the motives behind them. They remain content in the excuses of Holy War, Bill Clinton and Terror. At the very worst, they will only fault this administration for bad planning and execution, due to the ignorance of the President and the arrogance of his cabinet.

     Now, even Bush has admitted that there was no connection between Iraq and Al Qaeda, belatedly acknowledged as Republicans scramble for higher ground before the elections, while on he Left, the Democratic Party is yet again, proving itself to no longer be “the party of the people”. Although the majority of Democratic voters would like a quick end to the hostilities, the Party frontrunners are all promising to continue this war, only to do a better job of fighting it.

     It seems once again, the American people are being presented with the same two choices, the Left foot or the Right foot of the same beast, which continues to walk down the path to a greater war.
