- Say Goodbye
   by Down the Middle

(Editor's note: I just noticed that DtM sent me this article a week ago, and it wasn't posted until today. I would like to apologize for the slow response time by our editorial staff, and assure our readers that to our knowledge, no one was endangered by our mistakes.

We believe that waiting seven days to post this article is unacceptable. Because of this, former FEMA Director Mike Brown has resigned from his position as "Assistant Cybercity Manager, The Faulking Truth, 1990-present". We wish him the best of luck in his new position as lobbyist for Halliburton Corp. Okay, I'm just guessing there, but you have to admit the odds are with me that one's already been arranged. Anyway, here it is now, Down the Middle with "Say Goodbye".)

I am truly amazed. Five years into the "era of the neo-con" and Bush takes to the microphone (I know, I know.....couldn't find the bullhorn) and tells the American people, "Yeah, I fucked up, again (heh heh heh)...but don't worry. I'm going to spend another big wad of your money and everything will be cool." Seems like he did that once before, after 9/11 when he created the Department of Homeland Security.......and we've seen how well that turned out.

Of course, he never mentioned moving FEMA back to it's rightful independence and strength as a cabinet level agency, preferring that it be kept under the "control" of political crony (I prefer the term, "Capo"), Michael Chertof, now that ole Mike's figured out that Louisiana isn't a city and has demonstrated the art of diverting emergency aid to everywhere on the planet, except where the aid is needed........but what a city it will be, when the boys get finished...complete with gambling casinos and Disney Universal...and I suppose they'll leave the Quarter, just to round out the experience for the touristas. After all, "beads for breasts" does bring in the money!

But something tells me, the Big Easy will never be the same. I have a strange feeling that Halliburton is going to be paid billions of our money (well, actually the money we'll be borrowing from China) to do a bunch of work that the Corp of Engineers is already being paid to screw up.....like building higher levees that still won't be able to handle the rising tide of global warming, because these folks still haven't figured out that if they hadn't destroyed the barrier islands and the wetlands, to more easily get at that oil which is depleting the ozone, this disaster might never have happened.

I do believe, they have figured out how to steal away a good part of the land. Although they're willing to give out low-interest loans to business, they've already decided not to give the poor home owners the benefit of the bankruptcy law, before it was recently changed by the "neos". Now, those arrogant little home owners won't be able to hide behind their Homestead Exemptions. Of course, it probably won't come to that, anyway. Even the people who never got wet and have electricity and ample supplies are being forced from their homes by "deputies" from other states.....and who knows, where else? By that, I mean Blackwater, the North Carolina "security" firm that steals away our special forces, after we've trained them, and then rents them back to us for the war in Iraq at up to a thousand dollars a day...now, reportedly has at least 150 of their mercenaries roaming the streets of the city, armed to the teeth and licensed to kil...oh, I mean "deputized" to use lethal force. (And you thought New Orleans was tough, before the hurricane.)

But some people just won't give up. Good thing, the "neos" also passed "Eminent Domain", a few months ago. That'll take care of the home owners.....er, I mean, the hold-outs. The all new City of New Orleans will have no room for such "riffraff". Besides, this is the best thing that ever happened to, eh...those people. That's what Barbara Bush said about them...and who would know better than her?

And I'm sure her son will do better, next time. Although, he can't seem to spit out the words (Maybe, he just can't pronounce them), he's already suggesting that Congress give him the power to use Federal troops, in such situations...in effect, trashing "Posse Comitatus". It kind of seems irrelevant, since he already has the 82nd airborne on Bourbon Street and mercs running through the city...but I know Mr. Bush would like to keep everything above board and legal. Right?

I sure wish I could be there with the President at the grand opening of the all new Big Easy...just to watch him throw out the first strand of beads. Of course, the dedication will probably be held at the all new "Big Easy Consumer-plex", where you and yours can purchase the cheapest Chinese beads available...along with little American flags to wave and artificially flavored soft drinks, for the kids.

So, don't you worry about it. Just as soon as we can get legal title to that land, we're going to have New Orleans back, bigger and better than ever! Sure, we're going to lose some of the culture that made the place unique.....but now, all of America will be able to go there and "feel safe", while they gamble away their child's tuition and that middle class, red brick house with the white trim, back in Gooberville.

You see? You thought this administration was incompetent.....but they have just proved that they can take a terrible tragedy like this and turn it into something good, like profits for themselves and their big corporate buddies.

You let 'em steal the elections.....you let 'em steal entire Middle-Eastern countries.....and now, you're letting 'em steal an American city.

So say goodbye, America. Say goodbye to old New Orleans, one of the most unique and historical cities on the continent.......and while you're at it, say goodbye to your freedom. I think it just walked out the door.
