- "You're Fired!"
   by Mark Faulk

Let's get the clichés and the bad analogies out of the way right off the bat. The press (or at least the Corporate Media), who up to now have been nothing more than a bunch of lemmings following the Bush Administration off of every cliff, has suddenly turned into sharks in the middle of a feeding frenzy.

The Bush Administration, which seemed like an impenetrable fortress just a few weeks ago, now looks like nothing more than a house of cards waiting to collapse.

And Karl Rove? Hmmmmm......how about this? Rove, once heralded as the puppetmaster pulling the strings from behind the scenes at the White House, now looks more like the loose thread that, tugged at long enough and hard enough, threatens to unravel the entire fabric of the Bush Dynasty.

Whew! That was painful. Now for the predictions.....First, join me in a collective flashback to that OTHER house of cards from an earlier era. If you believe that Iraq is Bush's Vietnam, then you ain't seen nothing yet. While Vietnam was really the impetus that set up Nixon for his subsequent fall from grace in the Watergate scandal, "Plamegate" (Oh, c'mon, I know I'm not the first one to call it that.) might very well be Bush's Watergate. Whatever you want to call it, both Watergate and Plamegate will end up being the same thing.....Waterloo, the end.

    NOW for the predictions....

As soon as Rove's name surfaced in the Joseph Wilson/Valerie Plume fiasco, I wrote a mock classified ad called "Help Wanted- President Seeks New Brain", which went a little something like this:

"Chief Executive Officer of internationally known country seeks intelligent, motivated, individual to fill soon to be vacant position of "President's Brain". Official job title will be Assistant to the President, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Senior Adviser. Full time position, starting salary of $157,000, including full benefits, flexible hours, and all the Democrats you can eat. Must be skilled at muckraking, backstabbing, belittlement, back-fence talk, hearsay, scandalmongering, scurrility, rumor planting, smear campaigns, and thoroughly versed in the language commonly known as "Orwellian Doublespeak". Experience in mud-slinging, defamation, character assassination, and hatchet jobs also a requirement. Ventriloquism a plus, but not required."

It seemed just a tad over the top at the time, but in retrospect, I should have taken it even further, and added "Help Wanted" ads for the whole faulking bunch of them. Every day, another major player is added to the list of "those who might have known" about the Plume leak, so this list is subject to constant revision.

With that disclaimer, here (finally!) are my predictions of which cards will fall during this little scandal. Oh, what the hell, just for the fun of it, let's do this in ApprenticeSpeak. Everyone can do the "striking cobra hand gesture" as we say goodbye to:

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove:
"Karl.....you're fired!"

Vice Presidential Chief of Staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby:
"Scooter.....you're fired!"

Press Secretary Scott McClellan:
"Scott.....you're fired!"

Under Secretary and UN Ambassador wannabe John Bolton:
"John.....you're fired!" (or maybe that one should be "John.....you're not hired!)

Vice President Dick Cheney:
"Dick.....you're fired!" (C'mon, admit it- that one just felt downright orgasmic, didn't it? Well, maybe it was just me.)

And now for the biggie: once President Bush's "insurance policy" (that would be Dick Cheney, for those of you who still can't put two and two together) is gone, the president himself will become fair game, and believe me, once the media smells blood, they won't stop until the last fish is devoured. They've taken a beating from the internet and a growing number of Americans for "towing the line" for the administration for the past few years, and they see this as both sweet revenge and a chance for redemption. Bush, Cheney, and the puppetmaster himself, Karl Rove, have treated the media like their own personal whores, using them and discarding them, and then moving on to the next one to do it again.

And America feels exactly the same sense of betrayal. Ever since 9/11, Bush has asked Americans to trust him, and now, after five years of lies and deception, even those who once followed him blindly are beginning to turn on him. A recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll showed that only 41% of Americans believe Bush is "honest and straightforward". And if you think that looks bad, wait a few weeks.

Now don't get me wrong here. I'm not suggesting that this scandal will single-handedly bring down the President himself, but (to come full circle back to our first clichés') there is no doubt that this house of cards is coming down, that this fabric is unravelling. Don't believe me? Just wait until the investigation gets into the related AIPAC connections and the bogus reasons for going to war.

It's payback time, and before it's over, this generation will have the chance to do what my generation did over thirty years ago. Bush, like Nixon so long ago before him, might have manipulated his way into winning the election, but he will ultimately lose this war.

Is everybody ready with the "cobra"? Just so we can savor the moment, let's do the three count thing. Ready?......one.....two......THREE:

President Bush.....you're fired!"
