Thursday, June 30, 2005, on the Disney-owned Paul Harvey radio show: "Once upon a time, we elbowed our way onto and into this continent by giving small pox infected blankets to native Americans. Yes, that was biological warfare! And we used every other weapon we could get our hands on to grab this land from whomever. And we grew prosperous. And, yes, we greased the skids with the sweat of slaves." ~Paul Harvey, Thursday, June 30, 2005 Okay, let's start with the obvious......I mean, forget that Disney signed a guy who believes that killing off Native Americans by infecting them with smallpox was an acceptable way to "annex property". We'll just call that an early method of "imminent domain", which the Supreme Court actually upheld this past week. See? Everything comes full circle. (note: The Supreme Court upheld taking property away from private owners by "imminent domain", not infecting Native Americans with smallpox.....just wanted to make that perfectly clear.) And let's not get into the fact that he seems to think that enslaving an entire race was a great way to increase productivity. In fact, now that I think about it, maybe if we still had slave labor in this country, our billionaire corporations wouldn't have to outsource our jobs to some foreign country just to find decent slave labor. Maybe our Supreme Court will take up that issue in the near future....that is, once they slip in one more neocon to tip the balance just a tad bit more to the right. And I won't even mention that Disney wouldn't allow their subsidiary Miramax to distribute Michael Moore's Farenheit/911, which was dropped because, as a Disney executive told the New York Times, "Disney caters to families of all political stripes and believes Mr. Moore's film...could alienate many." Hmmmm.....genocide? A great way to expand our boundaries. Slavery? A reasonable solution to controlling labor costs. (And I didn't even get into the part where Harvey advocates dropping nuclear bombs on Iraq, simply because leveling Japan was such a rousing success. We'll leave that for "page two".) But make fun of our President in a documentary? I'm sorry, that's just going too far. But, as I said, let's get to the real reason to make fun of Disney for syndicating Paul Harvey's racist, genocidal ravings to a worldwide audience of 18 million listeners on over 1,000 radio stations...... They signed this 86 year old hate mongering idiot to a ten year, $100 million dollar contract. He's 86 YEARS OLD, for Chissakes! How stupid are you people. I mean, if I had negoiated his contract for Disney, I'd have at least signed him to a one week contract of $192,307.69 (that's right, that how much this buffoon "earns" a week), with 519 renewable options contingent on HIM LIVING ANOTHER FAULKING WEEK! See how much sense that makes? "Okay Paul, here's the deal - you don't die of old age this week, you get another paycheck next week. Live through that one, and you get paid for that week as well. Paul? You still with us, old chap? Sign here.....PAUL! Wake up, old man, let's seal this deal before your pacemaker gives out." So, complain to Disney about their racist, genocidal commentator? Put pressure on them to fire a guy who's older than my grandfather (he's dead, by the way.....take a hint, Mr. Harvey)? I say we just point and laugh at Disney for signing a guy who will just continue to spout off more and more senile drivel as the weeks go by, and who will eventually just be drooling on his microphone and dozing off in the middle of his diatribes, while still cashing his $800,000 a month paycheck as he reaches the century mark. If you ask me, Disney got just what they deserved....and that's the Faulking Truth. Good day. (Editor's note to Disney execs: Just because Mickey and Minnie Mouse are both pushing eighty and look as young as the day you first "signed" them, doesn't mean that Paul Harvey is either timeless or ageless. Mickey and Minnie are cartoon characters, while Paul Harvey is a caricature. Close, but not quite the same thing.)
