- The Neurotic, Psychotic, Compulsive, Paranoid, Faulking Truth Update
   by Mark Faulk

Just a quick update before I dash off to spend the day with my Faulking family. I know a lot of you have read about some of the antics of the Faulk family, but the reality is even better than the literary images I've sketched out over the past year. We're teetering precariously on the cusp of disfunctionalism, a textbook collection of varied neuroses, psychoses, compulsions, paranoias, and phobias, and despite all of that, I love every one of them more than life itself, and here's why. Look beyond the unique problems and issues that every one of us deal with, and you'll find that all Faulks (and all Shades, from my mother's more stable side of the family) have one thing in common....a strong sense of compassion, love, and heartfelt sympathy for our fellow man. Now that I think about it, I guess that makes us a fairly stereotypical American family. Hmmmm.....that gives me hope, and makes me feel a bit sorry for the rest of America at the same time.

Thanks once again for reading our little....whatever this is we're doing here. I've been telling everyone of my hope to break the 100,000 hit mark this month, and guess what? I was wrong, we're over 130,000 already, and on track for 150k, and I'm still insecure enough to want to ask all of you, "What the faulk is it that you see in us, anyway?" Maybe it's because we do all share the same neuroses, psychoses, compulsions, paranoias, and phobias. If that's the case, all I can say is.....hang on tight and enjoy the ride.

     On with the wild ride:

We break Faulking Truth tradition by weighing in on the major media's "topic of the month" with three articles on the Terri Schiavo saga, but as we always try to do, we present it in an entirely different light than say...... um, I don't know.....FOX News. "Live and Let Die" by Down the Middle, adds a personal twist to the story, I take a look at the political repercussions in "A Fall From Grace - How Bush is Alienating Mainstream America", and......we have an excellent piece from our newest contributor, Jeff Buckley, who examines the actions of the Bush Administration and Congress and reveals the true motives behind those actions in "Welcome to the 'Culture of Life'". I look forward to a lot more insightful articles from Jeff in the future.

If you only read one article on your next visit, read "This Will Prove to be a Serious Nuisance" by Ken Shade. It's an incredible first hand commentary on the effects and ravages of Multiple Sclerosis, and in typical Ken Shade style, I found myself both laughing and feeling guilty about it at the same time. And why you're at it, check out our newest addition to the website, Ken's "Quote of the Day", It's short, sweet, irreverent, and will almost always give you something to smile about or think about as you go about your daily drudgeries.

Robin Buckallew laments our rapidly disappearing natural landscape, and offers some solutions, in "The Uninhabited Land". Read this one now, because I've got another piece waiting in the wings, or if you miss it, look for it in the archives. It's worth the effort.

Mike Bohling adds "Stupid Things I See People Do In The Backcountry (Part I)", the first in a series, but be prepared, you're likely to find out that something you've done is on the list. Live and learn (key word there: "learn").

In ""Give Peace Rallies a Chance", we send Russell Tharp to, in his own words, "Infiltrate the Oklahoma City Peace Rally at the historic pot smoking pill popping 1960s hippie-haven Memorial Park." As always, he looks at the world with an entirely unique point of view.

For those of you who are following our Stockgate coverage, we've added "The Old Shell Game" by Bob O'Brien, another writer who has helped to bring this scandal to the attention of America.

And finally, read "Rise of An Evil Empire: Part 1 (Now With Added Destruction!)" by Sean Faulk in our Words section. This kid truly carries on the best subversive tradition of the Faulk family (God Bless him!).

As always, a few articles have slipped into the archives before I had a chance to bring them to your attention. So, if you haven't already, track down "What a Long Strange Trip It's Been....." (by....me) and "With a Little Help From my Friends" by Down the Middle, two pieces reflecting on our first birthday (we both hope to be walking soon), and don't forget to read back through Blogfest 2005 while you're goofing off at work. And that's the Faulking Truth.
