Well, we survived 2004, and for many of us, we enter the new year with a "it can't get any worse" attitude. We've weathered the storm of the ugliest election ever, agonized over the war in Iraq, fought the battle for an honest stock market, and shook our heads in amazement over one natural disaster after another. As for the Faulking Truth, all of you have made this little endeavor a huge success (unless you measure success in monetary gain, in which case it's been a monumental failure....but who the faulk cares?), and we promise to stick with all of you throughout the coming year....and we hope that you'll do the same for us. For those who don't know, we do all of this in our spare tine, in other words, it's a labor of passion, not profit. We have new stories in the works, new battles to fight and torches to carry, and several continuing causes that we intend to see through to the finish. We might make mistakes along the way, but our intent is to continue to be the voice of the disenfranchised and the forgotten, to point out what's right about America (and Americans), and what needs to be changed to make our country and our world a better place. Please continue to send us your story ideas, your article submissions, and add your comments to our guestbook. Thank you again, and I love every faulking one of you. Currently on our pages (with new articles waiting impatiently): "I'd Like a Bowl of Brazil Nuts, Please" By Robin Buckallew For the new year, I am going to share with you a tale of human hope, a tale of promise, a tale of innovations so striking and so amazing that the rest of the world can only sit back in wonder at what has been accomplished by a forward thinking city with vision. This is a tale of human ingenuity and daring, a tale of cooperation and conscious planning for the future. "My Children Think I'm an Idiot" By Ken Shade There's no malice involved. It's their job to think I'm an idiot. Your kids think you're all idiots, too. When I hear a new parent talking about how they want to teach their new baby all the things they've learned, I have to laugh. The kid won't care. By the time he is able to understand the whole nouns and verbs thing, he'll already know that he is the first person to have a real thought, and that the parent is a contemptible moron. "The Pursuit of Happiness" and "Woman" By Down The Middle If you were to ask most Americans what it takes {or would take} to make them happy, you would probably get a cornucopic list of newer and bigger “shiny” things, but “Win the lottery” would most likely top out as the number one response {then, of course, you can go out and buy all those newer and bigger “shiny” things}. How many times have you heard someone...or yourself, for that matter, fantasize about “winning the big one”? "Wishing You the Bluest Skies" By Mark Faulk I can't believe that it's already 2005. It seems like just yesterday that it was 2004. Oh, wait, it was just yesterday. I know that this is the time to reflect, and to maybe dispense some profound words of wisdom to jump start the New Year. Sorry, folks, when it comes to "words of wisdom", I'm just as clueless as everyone here. "Death of an Investment Class" By Dave Patch Ever wonder what would happen if our distressed neighborhoods were never policed? How about if our local news team failed to report crimes in any location other than our upscale neighborhoods? Do you think the US would be the country we are today? What would happen when the criminal elements were forced to migrate into the next levels of our neighborhoods? In our securities markets, that is exactly what is taking place, and the affects are alarming. "A Tale of Two Psychos" By Mark Faulk This is the story of two emotionally disturbed children, and how circumstance and society led two people who shared a similar childhood obsession down very different paths. Freddy Wishon lived next door to me. As children, we used to go down to a small pond a few blocks north of our homes. Freddy, however, soon turned his energies to catching frogs. To my horror, he would place the firecrackers in the frogs' mouths, light them, throw the frogs into the air, and laugh this sinister laugh as they exploded in mid-air. "Lost at Sea....Talking to God (Again)" By Mark Faulk Russell looked up, and for the first time in months, he saw God. He felt humbled and helpless, but mainly because he knew that God had authority over the seas, and he was miles from shore. It was a long swim home. Best not to rock the boat, so to speak. Besides, Russell had a lot on his mind, and who the hell else was he going to talk to out here in the middle of nowhere? "Big Hat, No Cattle" By Randy Newman Big Hat, no cattle, Big head, no brain Big snake, no rattle, I forever remain Big hat, no cattle, I knew from the start Big boat, no paddle, Big belly, no heart And a few recent ones you might have missed from our archives: "Man of the Year" By Down The Middle Once again, President George W. Bush has been chosen as Time magazine’s “Man of the Year”. {Damn, I can’t believe I lost again. What do I have to do...show my breasts?} "Tribute to a Cowboy - Happy Trails to You" By To The Left My dad, who died 19 years ago, was a cowboy. He loved horses and we always had a few to several, even up to two hundred horses around us. One of his dear friends was one of the most colorful characters I've ever known. His nickname was "Monk", and he called himself "El Coyote". http://www.faulkingtruth.com/Articles/DownTheMiddle/1021.html "Honey, if That's the Grinch Knocking, Would You Let Him in?" By Robin Buckallew Yesterday, the most amazing thing happened. Some might even call it a miracle. And it happened right here, at The Faulking Truth. It caught many of us off guard. We got swept up in it. And the response was incredible. http://www.faulkingtruth.com/Articles/CommentaryToo/1017.html "Peace Kills" By Mark Faulk Today, Bush gave a little speech to to help those who lost loved ones in the missile attack on a mess tent that killed 20 American soldiers and wounded 66 people in Iraq. The good news? They weren't killed in a war, they were killed on a "vital mission for peace". That's right, America, peace kills. http://www.faulkingtruth.com/Articles/BlogFest/1017.html So, there you have it...another year, another year older. That's all for now, I need my beauty sleep. Honey, where's my night cream? Happy Faulking New Year!!!
