Editor's Corner - Nov 9, 2004 - Printable Version - "I only have escaped alone to tell thee...." by Mark Faulk Update time again! I hope everyone has recovered from the shock of the election, I survived by going on a serious post-Halloween chocolate binge. Several pounds and a couple of cavities later, I feel a bit better. Truthfully, I was saying weeks ahead of time (only half jokingly), that the results were already predetermined. As each day goes by, it becomes more apparent that that was indeed the case. Nixon was undone by the break-in of a single office, so what's the penalty for stealing an entire election? This will only gain momentum in the weeks ahead, mark my words. Stay tuned. Okay, here's the latest in our cybercorner: We're already on our way to a record month for visits to the site, but our "core readers" are (and always will be) the heart and soul of The Faulking Truth. Thank you for staying with us, even when we veer off into oblivion a little too much. I promise that if you stick around, we'll return to reality for refueling every now and then. On the "election": We have four great pieces which amazingly all give unique viewpoints on where America went wrong (and how to fix it) in this year's votearama. First, Robin Buckallew nails Bush with "You Might be a Dubya Supporter if....". It's funny and depressing at the same time, which is perfect since I'm a bit manic depressive anyway. Then, "Down the Middle" takes time out to reflect on the efforts that were extended during the campaign with "The Day the Music Died". I can't help but feel that we at least awakened a long-dormant voice of dissent in the American psyche. It's in our archives at www.faulkingtruth.com/Articles/DownTheMiddle/1013.html . Then, he delves into the possible migration of Americans to Canada in "Goin’ Up North...Fo’ Freedom". Laugh it off, we lost a lot of Americans to the North in the Sixties, and this is beginning to look like an instant replay. "To the Left" follows that with "Religion or Spirituality?", which looks at the growing debate about whether or not the Religious Right is either religious OR right. Our Guest Commentary is "The Music Died Again", by Linda C. Wilson, a new contributor to The Faulking Truth. Her biggest concern when submitting her piece was that it might be "too controversial". This might be a sad reflection on us (or her, depending on how you look at it), but she fits right in. It's a great piece, I hope we see a lot more of her work. Robin Buckallew (that's right, her again) sounds a global warning with "A World of Wounds". With Bush around for the next four years, there are two things that can't be undone: our assault on foreign countries, and our equally hostile assault on the environment. If we break this world, it simply can't be fixed. Another significant piece from Robin. As for me, I go for the cheap shots with "Politicians Gone Wild", in which I compare the Presidential election to a Spring Break mud wrestling contest, complete with thongs and flowered sarongs. One of our readers said it was totally gratuitous, but I just don't see it. Maybe it's the part where I suggest that Bush and Kerry's daughters stand in for the actual candidates in the mud-wrestling contest, or where I add Cheney's gay daughter to the mix. Nah, that can't be it! That one's already in the archives at www.faulkingtruth.com/Articles/Commentary/1018.html Russell Tharp returns to the land of the living (after being AWOL longer than Dubya in the National Guard) with "In the Realm of Impossible Things", where he compares love and obsession for a woman to "money, religion, art, and yes, even politics". It's a stretch, but in the end, passion is passion, no matter what your poison is. The guy is borderline schitzophrenic, yet strangely compelling. Blogfest 2005 has several new entries, with tantalizing titles like "Dude, Where's My Bong?", I Think We're all Bozos on this Bus", "The Ministry of Truth Strikes Again", and my personal favorite, "Kids! Time to come in and get dressed for war". Go there for the wacky titles, stay for the refreshments. And finally, our Words section is again graced by our youngest contributor, Kelsey Faulk, who does her best Robert Zimmerman impersonation with "There's a Place to be", although one reader said it reminded them of her grandfather Bill Faulk. Either way, it's a compliment. So there it is. The election is history (history being rewritten every ten minutes, but history nonetheless), and, to quote my dad, (that would be Bill Faulk again) from his play "The Book of Joel"....... "I only have escaped alone to tell thee". One other note.... MSNBC is busy quoting the bloggers on the issue of voter fraud at this very moment. Not long ago, the bloggers were quoting the major media, now the major media is taking their cues from the bloggers. The times they are a-changin'. And that is the Faulking Truth. P.S. The Faulking Truth broke the one-quarter million mark in total hits on Nov. 6, 2004. That's 254,697 hits as of Nov. 8th. And we thought it was just going to be us and few friends! Thanks to everyone for listening to us pontificate about every faulking thing.
