Editor's Corner - Oct 6, 2004 - Printable Version - Working Hard....Because.....It's Hard Work by Mark Faulk Good morning, Faulkers. The Presidential debates rage on, and now the candidates are trying to sway the last three undecided voters left in the country. It seems that the Democrats are offering to give anyone who votes for Kerry a free weekend in the Lincoln bedroom at the White House, while the Republicans are dangling a potential ambassadorship to Seychelles in front of swing voters. Personally, I'm holding out for a Supreme Court seat, some of those guys are getting pretty darn old. We've been busy as usual, ignoring our real jobs so that we can keep you informed. Hey, we have our priorities straight. In a just released article in our continuing coverage of the stock market scandal, we kiss and make up with Dateline, since they finally got tired of being harassed by The Faulking Truth (sort of like a gnat that just won't quit buzzing around your ear). They confirm our earlier stories about the expose that they plan to air on the issue, and even promise to give us the inside scoop when it is finally scheduled. That article is entitled "Is Time Running Short in StockGate Scandal?". Incredibly, we even manage to change the subject from the election to almost anything else, just so our readers can take a breather from the barrage of misinformation that has been bombarding our senses like a low level nuclear attack. If you haven't already read Ken Shade's article "This One is For the Nurses" read it. His compassion and strength in the face of adversity is simply amazing. If you don't want to hug every person you love after reading it, then you're not human. (I paraphrased that from one of my blog entries, sorry, I'm sooooo lazy.) Robin Buckallew continues to make us look at the world from a different angle with "All Those Other Living Things". Truthfully, has anyone here ever looked at the cost of war in terms of how it impacts our world from an environmental viewpoint? Me neither. It's a must read, in my opinion. Let's see, what else is new? Searching, searching......oh yeah, Down The Middle and To The Left both chime in this time. To The Left begins with "Bush Secrets - Did You Know?". It tells about the many "business opportunities available in Iraq", if you're disgustingly rich and well-connected, that is. Down The Middle adds "The Last Time I Had Bush" (don't say it, in fact, don't even think it), an article that's about.......Bush, George Bush, that is. Here's the sad truth: he's funnier than I am lately. What the heck is up with that? I'm trying to be funny, but's it's hard. It's hard work. I mean, I'm working weekends, working late, working hard. Staying up late....it's hard work. 'Cause I'm working.....hard......cause it's.....hard work. Okay, where was I? Oh, yeah, I was working hard. Mike Bohling adds another great piece with "Balancing Act". It reminds us not to....well, not to work so hard. In this day and age, and with the juggling act that so many of our lives have become (I can SO relate to that), he tells how to take time for the things that should really matter (and it's not TV). I've been reading that one every few days, just to keep it in mind. And I stole a piece from my nephew, Sean Faulk, for our Words column this week. It's called "You Weep For Me", and it's a powerful piece. I told you we weren't just about politics here, but did you listen? Noooooo..... Speaking of working hard....I've been on a manic binge lately. I know I should probably be taking medication like the rest of my family (well, not all of them, but.....), but this is much more fun. I wrote a nice little piece called "George Bush Declares George Bush the Winner", one of those stream of consciousness things where I seem to have a point, but you have to look really hard to find it. Trust me, it's in there somewhere. And, I update our earlier article on Ally's House with "Toby Keith Turns Oklahoma City Concert into Toy Drive". It talks about Linda Webb's ongoing struggles as well (clue: with God's help, she's doing well). And of course, I'm still spouting off in Blogfest 2005, the bipolar page of our website. Take a look at my two commentaries (and I'm using the term "commentary" loosely here) on the Presidential and Vice-Presidential debates in "The Trust Factor......mmmmmm, donuts" and "The Vice-Presidential Debate Primer". (Caution: I make it seem like Cheney is a swearing, bitter, old man, so be prepared for that not-so-pretty picture). That's it.....we're all hanging in there, now it's time to decide what I want for dinner (that's right, it took me all day to finish this, I goofed off, a lot). Hmmmm.....should it be Southwest Eggrolls from Chili's, or Chicken Giardino from the Olive Garden? Just put me down as: undecided. Because it's hard work deciding stuff. Really hard work......working hard.....because.....it's hard.
