- Not-So-Swift Boat
   by Mark Faulk

Maybe I "misunderestimated" George Dubya Bush after all. Here I thought he was just another redneck with limited intelligence (you know, a "child left behind"), but his move today was nothing short of brilliant. First, he has had "no comment" for weeks on the Swift Boat attack ad, and now (after the ad's effectiveness has run it's course), he is suddenly taking the high road by denouncing all so-called "527" ads. "Now that we've trashed you for weeks, let's call a truce before my National Guard antics are brought up once again". Kudos to Dubya, that's the best dirty tactic of the campaign so far. However, there's still plenty of time for both camps to wallow in the muck. Mud wrestling, anyone? Maybe it should be an Olympic event.

We have several new articles worth turning off reruns of "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy" to take a look at (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Robin Buckallew does it again with "The Day It Rained Cats". I know I keep saying that every article is "her best yet", but this time I really mean it. Read it, environmental education has never been so entertaining.

Our mystery writer "Down The Middle" chimes in with "WAR IS OVER...If You Want It", an insightful look at the recent attack on John Kerry's war record. This is a sobering reminder that the tragedy of Viet Nam shouldn't be reduced to mere politics.

We have two guest commentators this month, and I'm amazed at the quality of the writing from The Faulking Truth readers. It just proves once again that geniuses run in packs (or should that be "herds"?). Either way, thanks to everyone for keeping the words flowing.

Mike Bohling contributes "Does God Need Government Assistance?", and makes one of the best arguments for separation of church and state that I've ever read. Read this one, it will motivate you to pick up a pen and paper (does anyone actually use pen and paper anymore?) and write what's on your mind. In the words of Ahnuld, "Do it! Do it Now! Come on, what are you waiting for?"

Dave Patch challenges the SEC and NASD to defend their lack of action in the ongoing stock market scandal in "To The NASD: Prove Me Wrong!". He has also been writing some excellent pieces on his site on the same issue at www.investigatethesec.com. Get involved in this issue, it affects everyone, even those who don't have money invested in the stock market.

And finally, Russell Tharp contributes another slightly creepy ode to love with "The Stalker", in our Words section. Incidentally, Russell seems to have disappeared, so if you see him, do everyone a favor, and either send him home or have him committed.

That's it for now. Until next time, here's a question to ponder: "If you cut yourself shaving while you're in the service, but you don't bleed, do you still deserve a purple heart?" Or how about this one: "Should you get a purple heart if you get drunk while you're AWOL from your National Guard unit, and fall and injure yourself, even if you do bleed?" Just wondering.
